At Quality Driveways, we recently completed a block paved driveway for a property in Preston, giving the space a fresh and modern look. The existing driveway was made of large concrete slabs. Which had become uneven and worn overtime. The homeowner wanted a more practical and stylish solution, so we replaced the old surface with charcoal block paving in a durable and well-structured layout.
Project Overview:
Located in Preston, this project used charcoal coloured block paving with a striking darker border to neatly frame the driveway.
Phase 1: Removal of the Old Driveway
The first step was to remove the existing concrete slab driveway. Our team carefully lifted and disposed of the old materials, ensuring a blank canvas and a clean surface to work with.
Phase 2: Ground Preparation
To create a strong foundation, we installed a compacted type 1 MOT sub-base, consisting of crushed stone. This step ensures the driveway will remain solid and level overtime. Then a layer of sharp sand was then added and leveled to create a smooth bedding for new blocks.
Phase 3: Laying the Block Paving
We used charcoal coloured block paving, arranged in a herringbone pattern for strength and a clean finish. A contrasting darker border was added along the edges to neatly define the driveway.
Phase 4: Final Compaction and Sanding
Once the blocks were in place, we brushed kiln-dried sand into the joints and compacted the surface. This helps lock the blocks together and prevents them from shifting in the future as well as making it difficult for any weeds to grow through.
End Result: A Driveway That Stands Out
The new driveway provides a stable, low-maintenance and visually appealing parking space. The charcoal blocks blend well with the property’s brickwork, giving the exterior a modern, high-quality finish.
